Arcade No. 203 Cast Iron Stake Truck, Blue, Freeport IL
This original cast iron Arcade Manufacturing Co. No. 203 stake truck is a classic example of American toy production from the mid-to-late 1920s. Marked clearly on the underside “Arcade MFG Co Freeport, Ill,” this truck also retains correct factory casting marks 203R, 203L, 2S, and 4S, confirming its identification within Arcade’s catalog. The design reflects early Ford Model T–inspired trucks, featuring an open cab, slatted stake bed, and sturdy cast iron construction.
Finished in blue paint that appears original, the truck displays honest wear from childhood play nearly a century ago. A partially intact original “Arcade Toys” decal remains on the driver’s door—an increasingly scarce detail that adds strong collector appeal. With its correct proportions, rolling cast wheels, and unmistakable early automotive styling, this piece is both an engaging display object and a solid reference example for serious cast iron toy collections.
Condition:
In good condition overall, showing clear signs of age and use. Paint appears original with expected wear, loss, and surface oxidation throughout. No cracks or major breaks observed. Wheels are intact and roll. Condition is consistent with a genuine early 20th-century cast iron toy.
