Arcade Cast Iron Touring Sedan with Driver, 1920s Original Paint
Step back to the roaring 1920s with this Arcade Manufacturing Co. cast iron sedan, a superb example of early American toy craftsmanship. Made in Freeport, Illinois and embossed “ARCADE MADE IN USA” on the underside, this hefty 8-inch model captures the elegance of a vintage touring car—complete with a nickel-plated driver at the wheel, a wire mesh radiator grille, and dual rear spare tires.
Painted in Arcade’s classic tri-color scheme of black, cream, and red, the car reflects the company’s knack for realism and durability. During its heyday, Arcade was among the most celebrated makers of cast-iron toys, producing miniature vehicles modeled after real automobiles—affordable “dream cars” for a generation discovering the thrill of the open road. This example has retained its original paint and authentic hardware, showcasing over a century of character and play history.
Condition
Good overall with expected wear from age and play. Paint appears original with scattered chipping and oxidation, particularly to wheels and edges. Structural integrity is excellent; no cracks or repairs noted. Driver figure, grille, and all wheels intact.
