Hubley “General 0000” Cast Iron Steam Shovel Truck, c. 1930s
A rugged original from the glory days of American toy making: Hubley’s truck-mounted “General” steam shovel in green and red enamel with nickel-plated scoop and white rubber-tired wheels. Mold numbers are present as noted (Hubley, 1897, 4, 1, 1996R, 1996L, 2, 3), aligning with Hubley’s casting practice on prewar toys. The embossed GENERAL plaques on the cab sides, cast driver, and riveted boom are classic Hubley identifiers. Toys in this configuration measure about 10" long and were cataloged among the firm’s larger construction pieces.
