Antique Cast Iron Derrick Crane Toy Cart, Likely Arcade, Early 1900s
Guaranteed authentic antique cast iron derrick crane toy cart, dating to the early 20th century. This piece is constructed of heavy cast iron and assembled with flathead screws, consistent with American toy manufacturing practices from the pre-1925 era.
The overall form, proportions, and mechanical layout closely correspond to known Arcade Manufacturing Company derrick crane and floor-train accessories of the period. In particular, the circular raised area at the center of the platform—now plain—matches examples that originally carried an Arcade paper or lithographed decal, which is frequently missing due to age and use. Surviving Arcade examples commonly show this exact loss, making the absence of the decal a known and expected condition trait rather than a defect.
The cart features four cast iron wheels, a hand-crank winch mounted to a cylindrical housing, and a tall vertical mast with pulley hardware and rope. The mast includes a socket indicating it was originally fitted with a removable boom or hook attachment, a component often missing on original examples today.
Condition:
In good condition with age-appropriate wear. Paint appears original, with scattered paint loss, surface wear, and oxidation consistent with age and use. Evidence of a prior repair is visible, as shown in the final image. All components remain intact. Comes as shown.
