Arcade Cast Iron “Monocoupe” Airplane No. 354, Red, USA
A classic piece of early American toy history, this Arcade cast iron “Monocoupe” airplane, model No. 354, captures the excitement of aviation’s golden age. Produced by the Arcade Manufacturing Company of Freeport, Illinois, this toy reflects the era when sleek monoplanes symbolized speed, innovation, and modern design. Arcade introduced its Monocoupe airplane series around 1929, inspired by the real-life Monocoupe aircraft that dominated air races and barnstorming events across the United States.
Finished in bright red paint, this example features a streamlined single-wing form, metal landing gear with rolling wheels, and a silver-tone propeller that spins smoothly. The underside is clearly marked “Arcade,” “354,” and “I,” consistent with original production castings. Solid, well-weighted, and visually striking, this airplane makes an excellent display piece for collectors of cast iron toys, prewar Americana, or aviation memorabilia.
Condition
In good condition, with paint appearing original and showing wear consistent with age and play. No cracks or breaks observed. The propeller spins smoothly, and the wheels roll freely. Overall structure remains solid and intact.
