Kenton “Army Motor Truck” Cast Iron Toy w/ Driver, Porter & Barrels, c.1918–1920
A classic from the dawn of the motor age, this cast iron “Army Motor Truck” captures the rugged charm of early 20th-century American toy design. Produced by Kenton Hardware Co. of Kenton, Ohio around 1918–1925, this handsome 9-inch model was part of Kenton’s patriotic post–WWI series celebrating the rise of motorized transport.
Cast with fine detail and embossed ARMY MOTOR TRUCK lettering along the sides, the truck features its original tan paint, eight-spoke wheels, and an integral driver figure at the wheel. In the rear sits a load of turned wooden barrels, the kind Kenton supplied to give young “drivers” something to haul. Also aboard is a separate standing porter figure—a period companion, likely added for display, that brings the scene vividly to life.
Condition:
Good overall, showing age-appropriate surface wear and handling marks. The paint appears original with minor edge losses; figures and barrels show natural toning. Axles roll freely, and no cracks or repairs are evident. Presented exactly as from our client’s collection.
