Champion Cast Iron “Gas & Motor Oil” Tanker Truck, c.1930s — Repainted Finish
Rolling straight out of America’s early motoring age, this cast iron “Champion Gas & Motor Oil” tanker truck was made by the Champion Hardware Company of Geneva, Ohio—one of the small but spirited manufacturers that fueled the golden era of cast iron toys. Measuring 8 inches long and weighing 2 pounds, it’s a solid and substantial little hauler featuring three domed filler caps, an open C-cab driver’s compartment, and nickel-finished pressed-steel wheels that still roll freely.
The truck now wears what appears to be an older, well-done repaint in bright red enamel, bringing renewed vibrancy to the embossed lettering and classic form. Beneath, the underside proudly reads “Champion, Geneva, Ohio,” confirming its authenticity. Produced in the late 1920s to mid-1930s, Champion’s toys are comparatively scarce—made for only a few years before the company returned to hardware manufacturing.
Condition:
Good condition overall. Paint appears to be an older professional repaint in excellent shape, with minor handling wear. Wheels and axles intact and functional; no visible cracks or casting breaks.
Dimensions:
8" L x 2.5" W x 3.5" H
