1970s Jim Bindman Executive Desk Lamp
Polished brass tubular desk lamp in the modernist style popular in the 70s. This sleek desk lamp was designed by Jim Bindman for the Rainbow Lamp Company. The direction of the light is adjustable by rotating the adjustable shade. There’s a small paper label inside the shade that reads “Rainbow Lamp, San Francisco California.” Bindman was well-known for his light fixtures featuring mimimalist lines.
Condition:
Good, Tested
The lamp is designed to be touch-activated, so the settings (off, dim, bright) could be cycled through by simply touching the lamp at any point. That feature of this lamp has apparently been bypassed by a previous owner, who installed a manual on/off switch on the the cord. The original “Touchtronic Control” box is still in place, and the lamp has a tactile response when you touch the brass, but we don’t know if the original “touch only” feature can be restored. It’s hard to find these vintage brass Bindman desk lamps with the brass in such good unblemished condition. Some light surface scratches are visible on the base.
