Description

1960s Felipe Derflingher Caged Glass

Vase and drinking glass made by mid-century artisan glass blower Felipe Derflingher. Derflingher’s Mexico City glass studio, Feders, was known for its brutalist-style light fixtures, barware, and glassware. These pieces were made using a technique Derflingher called "Imprisoned Glass,” because the molten glass was blown inside metal sleeves with pre-cut openings in various patterns. The pieces display the raw handmade texture and simple geometric shapes that characterize the brutalist style in glasswork. Derflingher’s work is widely collected, and Feders is still in business today.

Condition:
Good, As Shown
The vase has a chip in one of the bubbles, next to the metal sleeve, but it’s internal to the glass itself, likely from the glass-blowing process. The small glass has one chip next to the metal sleeve on the exterior. Both have fairly rough pontil bases, consistent with Derflingher’s caged glass pieces.

Size:
Vase: 9.5" X 3 Diameter
Small glass: 3.75" X 2.5" Diameter
