Two Mid-Century Papier Mache Toiletry Covers
These painted cardboard and papier mache figures were designed as stylish toiletry covers for 1960’s bathrooms. They were imported from Japan by I.W. Rice, and made in the style of famous papier-mache artist Gemma Taccogna, whose work featured stylized women with big dramatic eyes. The tall figure was designed to cover a can of hairspray, and the shorter one covered a roll of toilet paper. Both have the original foil importer label inside.
Condition:
Good, (Writing on Inside)
Slight wear to the paint, and several fine cracks in paper mache heads.
Someone wrote “Not for Sale” in the marker on the inside of each piece (but you can ignore that.)
Size:
Toilet Paper Holder: 10" X 5"
Hairspray Holder: 12.5" x 3
