About the Artist:
Peter Hurd, a distinguished artist, is celebrated for his captivating egg tempera paintings portraying the landscapes and ranch lifestyle of New Mexico. Born Harold Hurd, Jr. on February 22, 1904, in Roswell, New Mexico, he was affectionately referred to as Pete by his parents. Growing up on a small ranch outside Roswell, Hurd developed a profound connection with the arid terrain, which profoundly influenced his artistic sensibilities. Despite initially attending the New Mexico Military Academy and later securing a place at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1921, Hurd soon realized his true calling lay in the realm of drawing and painting rather than military pursuits. Encouraged by the sale of one of his paintings to a superior at West Point, Hurd bravely resigned from the Academy to pursue his artistic aspirations. Throughout his illustrious career, Hurd received numerous awards and accolades for his remarkable contributions to the art world.
