Large Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life) Candelabrum Altarpiece
Mexico, 20th Century
An impressive and exceptionally large Tree of Life candelabrum, crafted in Mexico during the 20th century, a remarkable example of traditional Mexican folk art. The altarpiece features intricately designed figures of Adam and Eve standing amidst the tree's branches. The snake, coiled around the tree with an apple in its mouth, symbolizes the biblical story of temptation and the fall of man.
The candelabrum is densely adorned with vibrant flowers and foliage, painted in rich polychrome hues, adding depth and vibrancy to the piece. Numerous birds are perched among the branches, symbolizing life and freedom. This candelabrum serves not only as a functional piece for holding candles but also as a decorative altarpiece, embodying deep cultural and religious symbolism.
