About the Artist:
Gwendolyn Harris Branstetter was born on October 7, 1924, in Beeville, Texas, to William Ward and Pearl Johnson Harris. She grew up in Live Oak County, where her family farmed and ranched. After graduating high school, Gwendolyn taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Mountain View, commuting daily on her gray mare, Gracie. She later worked as a secretary in Refugio schools.

A self-taught artist, Gwendolyn began painting in watercolors as a child and later transitioned to oils. She pursued further studies in commercial art and fine art, learning the techniques of the old masters. Her artistic career included numerous exhibits in prestigious shows such as the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame, Western Art Show in San Antonio, and international exhibitions in Europe.

Her works are held in several prominent collections, including the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame, the Dr. Pepper Museum, and the private collections of notable figures such as George H. Bush and Dr. Denton Cooley. Gwendolyn's dedication to her craft earned her recognition in Who's Who of American Art, Who's Who of American Women, and Two Thousand Women of Achievement.

Beyond her artistic achievements, Gwendolyn was actively involved in her community, generously donating her artworks to local organizations and businesses. She is remembered for her contributions to the arts and her community spirit.

Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Branstetter, and brothers Edwin, Ecil, and Lendsy Harris. She is survived by her sons Ronnie, Reagan, and Randy Branstetter, brothers Edgle and Weldon Harris, sisters Marbel Lindsey, Bernardene Heyn, and Yvonne Morin, as well as seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
