About the Artist:
Tony Pennock, a native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, is best known for his iconic water tank murals that have become landmarks in the region. He painted his first mural, "La Entrada," at 17, depicting the journey of families along El Camino Real. Over 50 years, he has painted 10 water tanks, covering approximately 140,000 square feet, including notable works like "Journey to Tlalocan" and "Quail Morning." These murals are a significant part of the Las Cruces landscape, educating viewers about their history and culture.
Pennock holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from New Mexico State University and a graduate degree in Architecture from Yale University and the University of New Mexico. His art blends local historical themes with personal and regional identity, and his work has been exhibited internationally. Pennock continues to inspire through his public art projects, including life-size Native American sculptures, and his teaching in Las Cruces.
