About the Author:
Michael McGarrity transitioned to full-time writing with the publication of "Tularosa" in 1996, achieving numerous national bestsellers. Holding a BA in psychology and a master’s in clinical social work, McGarrity's career in criminal justice spanned over twenty-five years, including roles such as establishing treatment programs for drug offenders and supervising outreach services for at-risk juveniles. As a Santa Fe County deputy sheriff, he spearheaded the establishment of the sex crimes unit and served as its lead investigator. Honored as New Mexico Social Worker of the Year in 1980 and recognized as Police Officer of the Year by the American Legion in 1987, McGarrity has also received several literary awards, including the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts — Literature in 2004 and the Frank Waters Exemplary Literary Achievement Award in 2015. Passionate about education and literature, he has played a significant role in establishing creative writing scholarships at various institutions.
