- Main Street, Las Cruces 1895
Looking north, the Rio Grande Hotel is in the left foreground. On the right is the Commercial Hotel; beyond that is the old Masonic Temple on the corner of Griggs Ave. - Fort Selden 1865
Fort Selden operated as a military outpost to defend the area from Apache raids from 1865 to 1891. Today, ruins mark the outline of the fort site which is now a New Mexico State Monument. - Main Street, Las Cruces 1890
Looking north on Main Street, St. Genevieve's Church towers are visible on the far right. Directly across Main St. from the church plaza was a drugstore, offices and the original Schaub's City Bakery. - Rio Grande Hotel 1890
One of the earliest Las Cruces hotels, the Rio Grande was located at the northwest corner of Lee (now May) and Main Street. By 1913, it had been demolished and replaced by a new structure.
