Looking east from Alameda Blvd. The main building was built in 1893; by 1906, east and west wings had been added and the complex assumed the appearance it would retain for the next half century. - Las Cruces City Hall 1940
Built in 1939, the City Hall stood at the NE corner of Church Street and Organ Avenue. It was demolished in the 60’s for construction of the present City Hall. - The Fraternum Shalam Colony 1889
Located northwest of Las Cruces, Shalam Colony was founded by Dr. John B. Newbrough as a religious colony for orphan children. The Fraternum housed the instructors and nurses. - Loretto Academy 1910
Considered the oldest educational institution in S. New Mexico and W. Texas, it was founded by the Sisters of Loretto in 1870. It stood at the present day intersection of Main and Lohman until the 1950’s.
