About the Artist:

Geneva Ramone, born in 1958 within the Navajo Nation in Crownpoint, New Mexico, has emerged as a guardian of her people's artistic heritage through her masterful silversmithing. Her upbringing on the Navajo Reservation laid the groundwork for her creative voyage, which began at the tender age of fifteen under the tutelage of her uncle, Tom Dick Ramone, an esteemed figure in the silversmithing community.

Tom Dick Ramone revered the sacred process of silversmithing, practicing it in a clandestine enclave on the reservation, away from the eyes of the uninitiated. Captivated by this art, Geneva was taken under her uncle's wing, learning to craft everything from conchas to bracelets and rings. This process involved the transformation of scrap silver into stunning pieces, utilizing hand-forged stamps for exquisite detailing.

While Geneva has incorporated contemporary materials like fabricated silver sheets and wires into her work, she remains true to the foundational techniques passed down by her uncle, including the use of his original stamps and crafting her unique designs. Since dedicating herself to silversmithing full-time in 1978, Geneva has displayed exceptional skill and flexibility in her craft, with a special affinity for stamp work. Her designs, brought to life with a rich assortment of stamps, pay homage to the profound narrative of Navajo artistry.
