About the Artist:
Carl Larsson, the Swedish Naturalist painter, draftsman, illustrator, printmaker, and watercolorist, emerged from humble beginnings in Stockholm's old quarter on May 28, 1853. Despite early hardships, his artistic talent shone brightly, leading him to pursue studies at the Art Academy and later venturing into illustration. Settling in Grez-sur-Loing, Larsson's encounter with his future wife, Karin, marked a turning point, inspiring a shift to watercolor painting. Their picturesque family life, immortalized in Larsson's art, thrived in the charming Lilla Hyttnäs. While acclaimed for his watercolors, Larsson held a deep conviction in the significance of monumental frescoes, exemplified by "Midvinterblot," eventually vindicated in its rightful place at the National Museum.
