About the Artist:

Flo Hosa Dougherty's artistic journey is deeply rooted in her passion for both teaching and creating art. With an art scholarship from Kent State University and teaching credentials from Youngstown State University, Dougherty embarked on a distinguished thirty-year career as an art educator and department chair at Boardman High School in Boardman, Ohio. Her commitment to fostering the arts extended beyond the classroom, encouraging students to pursue art-related careers and enhancing art awareness in the community. Recognized for her contributions, she received numerous accolades from art and civic associations, as well as city and federal governments in both Ohio and New Mexico, where she later settled.

In New Mexico, Dougherty's artistic expression found a new canvas. Her Blue Gate Gallery and Studio in Las Cruces became a beacon for her "fine art and fun art," showcasing a range of styles from realism to non-objective in various mediums like oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and mixed media. Her works often feature scenes from both Ohio and New Mexico, reflecting her deep connection to both regions. Dougherty's art has earned acclaim in juried shows, including awards and invitations to prestigious events like the New Mexico Governor’s Invitational. Beyond her own art, she ventured into whimsical illustration, developing characters for a children's story anthology. Her collaboration with her daughter, Amy Hosa, in combined exhibits, further highlights her enduring influence in the art world, bridging generations and geographies through her vibrant and diverse artistic legacy.
