Description

Kelly Hestir 'Heroes of Bataan' Sculpture

This evocative cast resin sculpture by Kelley Hestir, finished to emulate the luster and gravity of bronze, depicts a trio of soldiers in a moment of profound solidarity and struggle. Dated 2002 and signed by the artist, the piece stands as a small-scale homage to the larger "Bataan Death March Memorial" Hestir is renowned for. Each figure is rendered with careful attention to the wear of their uniforms and the exhaustion etched into their features, a tribute to the fortitude of the soldiers of Bataan. The intricate details, from the texture of their gear to the interplay of support and despair among the figures, make this sculpture a powerful narrative piece that captures both historical significance and raw human emotion.
