1906-D $10 Liberty Head Gold Eagle
1906-D Half Eagle born of America's last great gold rush! When the Denver Mint opened in 1906 and began striking coins from Cripple Creek ore, Liberty Head $10 gold pieces were coming to an end. So this design was struck at the fledgling mint for just two years – 1906 and 1907 – before its replacement by Indian Head coinage in 1908. Only 981,000 1906-D gold eagles were struck, and today, survivors are less plentiful than other dates and mints.
