Description

Geronimo and the Gila Cliff Dwellings - Carved Turquoise & Sterling Bolo

This exceptional bolo tie, crafted by a skilled Navajo artisan, features a magnificent natural turquoise stone intricately carved to depict the Gila Cliff Dwellings on the left, embodying the spirit of the ancient Mogollon culture. These dwellings, located in the heart of the Gila National Forest, represent a time when the Mogollon people, known for their pit houses and surface pueblos, ventured into creating homes within the natural caves of Cliff Dweller Canyon. The Gila, with its lush landscapes and rich history, has been a home to various cultures over millennia, from the Mogollon to the Basque sheepherders, who left their mark in the stone shelters and cliff dwellings they adapted.

On the right side, the stone portrays Geronimo, the revered Chiricahua Apache leader. His legacy is deeply intertwined with the Gila, where he was born and raised. The area, rich in Apache history, also bears remnants of the Mimbres people, known for their unique pottery and cliff dwellings. The trail, rich in historical treasures dating back to 200 AD, offers glimpses into the lives of those who once thrived in this land.

  • Featuring a large, intricately carved turquoise stone depicting Gila Cliff Dwellings on one side and a lifelike portrayal of Geronimo on the other
