Born: 1900 - Santiago, Chile
Mariono Ortuzar is known for watercolor painting of techniques of clarity, delicacy of transparencies, contrasts of light and dark, perspectives and harmony of colors. His favorite subjects are landscapes of his native Chile, famous for its beautiful lakes, forests, volcanoes, seaports, canals and glaciers and European, Asiatic and American scenes.
Ortuzar has traveled extensively throughout South America, Europe and Asia, and has had 65 one-man shows in Chile, Peru, Argentina, United States, Italy, Spain, France, and Denmark, as well as exhibitions in Paris, Madrid and Rome, during 1962 under the auspices of the Chilean Ambassadors.
Collections of his work have been shown in galleries in Florence, Venice, London, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Madrid, Paris, New York and several other American cities.
Among his awards are: Award of Honor and First Prize, Chile, in 1953, a Special Prize in 1957 for Water Color from the Ministry of Education in Santiago, Chile, a medal for Water Color from the National Exhibition Hall of Fine Arts in 1960 in Santiago.
He was a member of the Salmagundi Art Club in New York.
