The Ndebeles are among the smallest tribes in Southern Africa. But are easily one of the most colorful and distinctive tribes and over the years dolls have play an important part in Ndebele Culture.
During engagement, a man who wants to be in a serious relationship with a particular women places a doll outside a young woman's hut, indicating his intention to propose marriage to her.
This unique doll is lovingly crafted by rural Ndebele women in remote areas where few job opportunities exist. Handmade in South Africa and have beautiful bead work on them. The Mopani Crafts was started to bring authentic and handmade traditional and contemporary Ndebele bead work to the retail market in South Africa and the rest of the world.
