Black Locust Wood-Turned Bowl by Alan Smith
This cool bowl looks great alone or filled with candies or marbles. Check out the different photos to see various views and details of the beautiful salvaged wood that Alan turned into a work of art. Our friend Alan has been selling his art with our Cloudcroft, NM gift shop/gallery Off the Beaten Path for some time now, and we love him and the uniqueness of his work. This particular bowl of Alan's is valued at $45.
About the Artist:
Alan Smith, Everett, WA
Alan Smith loves to salvage wood and turn it into something beautiful. He has been working with wood since he was a boy and relishes in discovering what's inside seemingly ordinary pieces of wood. He says every fragment is different and the final shape and finish unique. The process involves sourcing logs from downed trees in his neighborhood, chain/band sawing into blanks, treating end cuts to inhibit splits, rough turning, drying, final turning, finishing and polishing. Instead of ending up in a fireplace or landfill, Alan's bowls, pots and trees adorn and enhance homes.
