Christofle "Marly" 64 Piece Service
Christofle "Marly"
Marly is one of the most elaborately decorated patterns by Christofle; the fine chasing of its asymmetrical plant motifs, typical of the “Rocaille” or Louis XV style, highlight the silversmith’s expertise and attention to detail.
Chrifofle's Marly collection takes its name from the Château de Marly built by Louis XIV in the west of Paris, which was to be totally destroyed during the Revolution. It is in this "country castle", where etiquette was less rigid. Here the shape of the plate "with marli" would have been created (the marli is the peripheral inclined part of a plate, allowing it to be handled without dirtying the fingers).
