Thomasville Decorum Collection Oak Armoire with Chevron Parquetry Doors

A substantial bedroom armoire from Thomasville Furniture's Decorum Collection, executed in the Mediterranean-revival mode that dominated American case-goods design through the late 1960s and 1970s. The piece combines hardwood solids, composites, and figured veneers, with the door fronts laid in a striking chevron-matched parquetry pattern framed by raised octagonal moldings. A long top drawer with twin brass knobs and central escutcheon sits beneath the stepped cornice; a single deep drawer with Chippendale-style batwing pulls anchors the base.

The two-door upper cabinet opens to a divided upper compartment with vertical dividers above a pair of concealed dovetail-constructed drawers — a well-considered configuration for folded linens or wardrobe storage behind a clean two-door façade. The interior carries the factory production stamp "NO 2442 ARMOIRE / ORD NO 348," consistent with Thomasville's standard manufacturing documentation of the period.

CONDITION

Good and sturdy overall with honest use wear. Scuffing and finish wear throughout; a chip to the right side of the case, paint splatter in spots, and a stain on the shelf of the center storage area. Hardware on the bottom drawer has been replaced, and the left door handle has been repaired with wire.
