Description

Early Antique Primitive Wood Chest w/ Iron Straps Lock Box

This small antique wooden chest appears to be an early primitive storage box, likely dating to the late 18th or early 19th century based on its hand-cut joinery, uneven plank construction, and forged iron strapwork. The iron hinges, riveted corner braces, and simple escutcheon-style latch plate are characteristic of rural or utilitarian craftsmanship, possibly American or European folk origin. The wood—possibly pine or a similar softwood—shows hand-planed surfaces and a deep, naturally aged patina.

Chests of this form were commonly used for storing tools, documents, or personal belongings. Its compact size and honest construction make it especially appealing as a decorative accent or functional keepsake box, with strong appeal to collectors of early Americana or primitive antiques.

Condition:
In good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Visible surface scratches, small splits, edge wear, and oxidation to the iron hardware. The lid sits slightly uneven, and there is wear along the base and corners. Interior shows expected wear from use. Structurally sound and fully functional.

Dimensions:
7 x 16 x 8 inches
Interior: 5 1/2 x 14 x 6 1/2 inches
