Terracotta Storage Jars 2-Piece Lot — Cream Slip, Incised Décor
Two hand-thrown terracotta storage vessels of Middle Eastern or North African type, each with an ovoid body, narrow neck, and small raised foot ring. The larger jar features a cream slip over the upper body and neck with dense horizontal ribbing from the wheel, an incised multi-line wave motif at the shoulder, and an unslipped red-brown lower body. The smaller jar carries the same slip-and-rib treatment with two impressed rope-style decorative bands marking the shoulder-to-body transition.
Lot includes both vessels as shown.
CONDITION
Good. Both pieces display chipping, surface scuffing, and finish wear consistent with age and use. The large jar has a significant horizontal fracture running the full circumference at the shoulder-to-body junction with clay loss along the break; the smaller jar shows heavy abrasion across the lower body.
