Large Olmec Colossal Head Style Sculpture 28"
Impressive large Olmec colossal head style sculpture crafted in cast resin and marked “Hecho en Mexico.” This dramatic decorative piece is inspired by the famous monumental stone heads created by the ancient Olmec civilization of Mesoamerica (c. 1200–400 BCE), believed to represent powerful rulers wearing ceremonial helmet-like headgear.
The sculpture features broad facial features, full lips, almond-shaped eyes, and an ornate helmet band with geometric motifs reminiscent of the historic basalt monuments discovered at sites such as San Lorenzo and La Venta. Finished in warm ochre and terracotta tones with darker patina accents, the textured surface is designed to evoke the appearance of aged stone.
Likely produced in Mexico during the late 20th century for the decorative export market, this hollow cast resin example offers monumental scale while remaining manageable for display. Its large presence makes it an eye-catching piece for collectors of Mesoamerican-inspired art, interior décor, themed spaces, or garden and architectural display.
Condition:
Good condition overall with wear consistent with age and display. There is a cosmetic imperfection above the left eye and a visible crack along the top seam of the headdress area, as shown in photos. Surface texture variations and finish wear are present. The piece remains structurally intact and displays well.
