Harmon Dwarf Railroad Signal — Vintage Red Lens, Circa 1960s–1970s
Vintage Harmon Signal Company dwarf railroad signal, featuring the embossed HARMON lightning-bolt logo and a vivid red glass lens within its original steel visor. Produced circa 1960s–1970s by the Harmon Signal Company of Independence, Missouri—a leading U.S. manufacturer of railroad electronics and safety systems—this low-mounted “dwarf” signal was designed for use in yards, sidings, and interlocking tracks to indicate low-speed movements where full-height signals were impractical.
Constructed from heavy cast metal with industrial enamel finish and authentic mid-century hardware, this piece exemplifies the robust engineering of American rail signaling’s golden age. The unit retains its original wiring and mounting fittings; it briefly illuminated during testing but the bulb is now blown and the cord lacks a plug. A fine collectible or display piece for railroadiana enthusiasts or industrial décor collectors.
Condition
Functional but untested beyond brief illumination. Shows oxidation, chipped paint, and surface wear consistent with age and outdoor service. Cord lacks plug end and bulb is blown. Structurally solid with strong presentation and authentic patina.
