Sharlene Grunerud Hand-Painted Mimbres-Inspired Gourd, 2003
Hand-painted decorative gourd by Sharlene Grunerud, dated September 2003. This tall, natural gourd features bold geometric animal motifs inspired by the ancient Mimbres pottery tradition of the American Southwest. The piece blends black, red, yellow, and white pigments in rhythmic, stylized forms that celebrate regional artistry and natural materials.
Sharlene Grunerud is a long-time resident of the Mimbres Valley near Silver City, New Mexico, where she and her partner have spent more than four decades operating Mimbres Farms, an organic and community-centered enterprise. Her artwork reflects the same respect for the land and heritage seen in her agricultural work — each gourd a handcrafted tribute to the cultural spirit of the region.
Condition:
Good overall condition with visible scuffing and surface marks consistent with age and natural gourd texture. Paintwork remains vibrant, and the structure is sound. Minor surface wear throughout does not detract from display appeal.
Size:
17.5" height × 6" diameter
