(10) Sacagawea One Dollar Coins
This lot consists of ten United States One Dollar coins of the Sacagawea type, struck in manganese-brass clad composition and intended for circulation. The group includes six examples dated 2001 with a visible “D” mint mark, indicating production at the Denver Mint, and four examples dated 2000 with no mint mark present, consistent with production at the Philadelphia Mint.
The obverse of each coin depicts a right-facing portrait of Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste, secured in a cradleboard. The legend LIBERTY appears along the upper rim, with IN GOD WE TRUST to the left of the portrait. The date appears at the lower right on each coin, with the 2001 issues displaying a “D” mint mark beneath the date and the 2000 issues showing no mint mark.
The reverse of each coin features a bald eagle in flight with wings extended, encircled by seventeen stars. The legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM appear above, with ONE DOLLAR along the lower rim. All reverses conform to the standard Sacagawea dollar design used during this period.
