2022 Empty Bowls Auction 30th Anniversary Closed (#10425025)
The items in this auction are donated by local artists, businesses and individuals, and 100% of the proceeds go to El Caldito, a Las Cruces soup kitchen. Empty Bowls is an international effort by potters to raise awareness of world hunger, raise as much money as possible for local food banks and soup kitchens, and to create lasting social change through the arts. It is coordinated around World Food Day, October 16th.
Empty Bowls was begun at a high school in Michigan in 1990. Students made bowls, soup, and had a sale with the proceeds given to a local food bank. The Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces began a local Empty Bowls event in 1992 which was the first in New Mexico. Empty Bowls is now an international event coordinated by potters to raise awareness of world hunger. Currently in Las Cruces, over 60 local restaurants donate soup and the Potters' guild of Las Cruces coordinates hand-made bowl production for an event on October 14th. 100% of the proceeds from this auction go to our local soup kitchen, El Caldito at The Community of Hope.
